Manifest Destiny

Was Manifest Destiny the only motivation for American westward expansion? Was it the most important motivation?
How did Manifest Destiny impact sectionalism in America?

  1. The Manifest Destiny was not the only motivation for westward expansion I believe. In general, people wanted to start finding more land and explore what the continent had to offer. A human being's curiousness takes a toll on he or she after awhile of wondering. I believe the search for more space was the most motivation. It was getting too crowded in the larger plantations and cities in the East. Manifest Destiny sectionalized America into many part with the Yankees with their moral values and the Southerns against any centralized government. Spreading out these groups just caused many to become confused and for more controversial ideas to appear.

  2. I dont think the Manifest Destiny was the only motivation for people to westward. I believe that the quest for more land was the most important motivation. The Manifest Destiny sectionalized America between the the people and the government. by putting a wall up between these groups it cause many new ideas and beliefs to be brought up.

  3. I think that Manifest Destiny was a very useful motivation for Westward expansion, but it however, was not the only one. Everyone wanted more land, whether it was for a small area of crops, or a large plantation to pass down to their children one day. I think that land was the most important one, because there was so much land to choose from in the West that no one had lived on before. Manifest Destiny helped to make people sectionalized, by giving them all something to look at that they wanted in the West. Even if they lived by someone who did not have the same beliefs as them, they still held to their own, and did not convert to other customs.

  4. Manifest Destiny was not the only thing that motivated the Americans to move westward. The want for gold was another huge thing why the Americans wanted to migrate westward. Which was known as the California Gold Rush. The only thing that was wrong with that is that is that most of the Americans where leaving their homes that were in perfect condition to go west and living off of bear minimum and on top of that most men from families would leave the families and the wife and kids might not ever see him again. The reason why is because for one the weather conditions that you had to adapt to and you also had to watch out for the tribes of Idians across the plains. No i think that the Gold Rush was the main thing that motivated the Americans toward the west. It made it over populated in many areas and I think it made the food supply a lot less because of all of them killing the animals across the plains.
